Blow emails - use the phone!

I sometimes catch myself sitting in front of the computer trying to find just the right words to to get over a subtle meaning and when my partner sees me labouring he usually says, “Why don’t you call them?”

He’s almost always right, of course - if you want to say something important, subtle or significant and/or want some real, live and immediate feedback, then use the phone.

Good business needs you to speak with your clients sometimes - you can’t always get away with simply emailing them all the time about everything.

The problem is that emails have almost completely taken over how we correspond with clients and there is a temptation to sit in front of the computer and contact everybody with a series of emails that simply don’t allow for the spontaneity encouraged by a telephone conversation.

Of course, emails have their uses. They’re economic. fast and accurate so if you want to explain something in precise detail then that’s the way to go. But don’t forget the phone!
